Belstaff was established in Staffordshire, England by Eli Belovitch and his son-in-law Harry Grosberg in 1924. The fancy sounding company name is actually a pairing of Eli’s last name and Staffordshire. The pair traveled the world in search of innovative technologies. Chiefly designed for motorcyclists, Balstaff quickly gained popularity for their waxed cotton, breathable, waterproof jackets. Actor Steve McQueen sported a Belstaff jacket in the 1963 film The Great Escape and soon it became one of the need to have items of the rich and famous. To this day, Balstaff jackets are popular with celebrities, and have been seen on the likes of Kate Moss, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and David Beckham.
